I. The Simplicity of Salvation
一　救いの容易さ



1. How simple is salvation!
　救済とは、なんとシンプルなものなのでしょう。

　All it says is what was never true is not true now, and never will be.
　救済が宣言するのは、一度も真実であったためしのないことは、今も真実ではないし、これからも決して真実になる見込みはない、ということだけです。

　The impossible has not occurred, and can have no effects.
　ありえないことは起こってはいないし、ありえないことにはどんな結果もあるはずがありません。

　And that is all.
　ただそれだけです。

　Can this be hard to learn by anyone who wants it to be true?
　それが真実であってほしいと望む者にとって、これを学ぶのは難しいことでしょうか。

　Only unwillingness to learn it could make such an easy lesson difficult.
　こんなにも簡単なレッスンを難しいものにできるのは、それを学ぶのを嫌がることだけです。

　How hard is it to see that what is false can not be true, and what is true can not be false?
　虚偽であることが真実になりうるはずがないし、真実であることが虚偽になりうるはずがないと理解するのが、どうして難しいのでしょうか。

　You can no longer say that you perceive no differences in false and true.
　あなたはもう、自分には虚偽と真実との区別がつかないと言い訳することはできません。

　You have been told exactly how to tell one from the other, and just what to do if you become confused.
　あなたはすでにどうやって虚偽と真実を区別すればよいかはっきり教わっているし、もし両者の区別がつかなくなった際にはまさにどうすべきか教わっているはずだからです。

　Why, then, do you persist in learning not such simple things?
　それなのに、どうしてあなたは頑なに、こんな簡単なことを学ばずにいようとするのでしょうか。



2. There is a reason.
　それに理由があるのは確かです。

　But confuse it not with difficulty in the simple things salvation asks you learn.
　ただし、このことを救済があなたに学ぶようにと求めている簡単な事柄の中に難しさがあるのだと誤解してはなりません。

　It teaches but the very obvious.
　救いはただ、きわめて明白なことを教えるだけです。

　It merely goes from one apparent lesson to the next, in easy steps that lead you gently from one to another, with no strain at all.
　救いは単に、あなたを一歩ずつ簡単なステップを通して導いて、ひとつの明らかなレッスンから次のレッスンへと進むだけなので、何のストレスも感じさせることはありません。

　This cannot be confusing, yet you are confused.
　これが混乱するようなことであるはずがありません。それなのに、あなたは混乱しています。

　For somehow you believe that what is totally confused is easier to learn and understand.
　その理由は、あなたたちは奇妙なことに、全面的に混乱しているもののほうが、学んだり理解したりしやすいと信じこんでいるからです。

　What you have taught yourself is such a giant learning feat it is indeed incredible.
　あなたたちが自分自身に教えこんできたことは、実に偉業ともいうべき学習の成果であって、それは本当に信じがたいほどのものです。

　But you accomplished it because you wanted to, and did not pause in diligence to judge it hard to learn or too complex to grasp.
　それでも、あなたたちはそれを成し遂げたのです。なぜなら、あなたたちがそれを望み、学ぶには難しすぎるとか複雑すぎて理解できないと判断して、それを学ぶ努力をやめたりしなかったからです。



3. No one who understands what you have learned, how carefully you learned it, and the pains to which you went to practice and repeat the lessons endlessly, in every form you could conceive of them, could ever doubt the power of your learning skill.
　あなたたちが学習してきたことや、あなたたちが本当に注意深くそれを習得してきたこと、そして、想定しうるあらゆる形で際限なく、それらの課題を実践するために、ひたすら繰り返して苦労してきたことをよく理解する者であれば、誰もあなたたちの学習技能の力量を少しも疑うことはできないはずです。

　There is no greater power in the world.
　この世界において、あなたたちの学習能力に優る偉大な力はありません。

　The world was made by it, and even now depends on nothing else.
　この世界は、あなたたちの学習能力によって作り出されたのだし、今でもその力にしか依存していません。

　The lessons you have taught yourself have been so overlearned and fixed they rise like heavy curtains to obscure the simple and the obvious.
　あなたたちが自分自身に教え込んできたレッスンは、あまりに過剰に学習されて凝り固まってしまっているために、それらが分厚いカ―テンのように立ちはだかって、単純明快なこともわからないようにしてしまっています。

　Say not you cannot learn them.
　だから、自分には単純明快なことが学べないなどと言ってはなりません。

　For your power to learn is strong enough to teach you that your will is not your own, your thoughts do not belong to you, and even you are someone else.
　というのは、あなたたちの学習能力は、自分に自分の意志が自分のものではなく、自分の思いが自分に属するものではないと教え、果ては自分のことをほかの誰かだとすら自分に教え込めるほど強力なものだからです。



4. Who could maintain that lessons such as these are easy?
　これほど複雑なことを学ぶのが容易なことだなどと、いったい誰が主張できるでしょう。

　Yet you have learned more than this.
　ところが、あなたたちはすでにこれ以上のものを学んできたのです。

　You have continued, taking every step, however difficult, without complaint, until a world was built that suited you.
　あなたたちはこつこつと継続して、一歩ずつ歩みを進めて、どんなに困難でも愚痴ひとつこぼすことなく、自分に適合する世界を築きあげるまで学び続けてきました。

　And every lesson that makes up the world arises from the first accomplishment of learning; an enormity so great the Holy Spirit's Voice seems small and still before its magnitude.
　そして、この世界を作りあげているすべてのレッスンは、最初の学習の達成から生じたものなのです。その学習の膨大さは途方もなく大きなもので、その大きさを前にしては、聖霊の声すら小さくて静かなものに思えるほどです。

　The world began with one strange lesson, powerful enough to render God forgotten, and His Son an alien to himself, in exile from the home where God Himself established him.
　この世界はひとつの奇妙なレッスンとともに始まりました。そのレッスンは、神を忘却させ、神の子を彼自身にとって見知らぬ異邦人へと変貌させ、神自身がわが子のためにと定めてくれた故郷から彼を追放して流浪の身にさせるほど強力なものでした。

　You who have taught yourself the Son of God is guilty, say not that you cannot learn the simple things salvation teaches you!
　自分自身に対して神の子が有罪だと教えこんだくらいなのですから、そのあなたが、救いがあなたに教えようとする簡単なことが自分には学べないなどと言うべきでありません。



5. Learning is an ability you made and gave yourself.
　学ぶことは、あなたが作り出して、自分自身に与えた能力です。

　It was not made to do the Will of God, but to uphold a wish that it could be opposed, and that a will apart from it was yet more real than it.
　学習能力は、神の大いなる意志を行うために作られたものではありませんでした。そうではなくて、神の大いなる意志に逆らうことができればよいのにという願望と、神の大いなる意志からかけ離れた意志のほうが神の大いなる意志よりも本物であってほしいという願望を支持するために作り出されたものだったのです。

　And this has learning sought to demonstrate, and you have learned what it was made to teach.
　そして、学習することで実証しようとしてきたのは、こんなことだったのであり、そして、あなたは学習がそれを教えるべく作り出された事柄を習得してきたのです。

　Now does your ancient overlearning stand implacable before the Voice of truth, and teach you that Its lessons are not true; too hard to learn, too difficult to see, and too opposed to what is really true.
　いまや、古来よりあなたが必要以上に学んできた事柄が、執拗に真理の大いなる声の前に立ちはだかって、その大いなる声の教えるレッスンは真実ではないとか、あまりに学びにくいとか、理解するには難しすぎるとか、本当に真実であるものとはあまりに正反対だなどとあなたに教えています。

　Yet you will learn them, for their learning is the only purpose for your learning skill the Holy Spirit sees in all the world.
　それでも、あなたはその大いなる声の語るレッスンを学ぶでしょう。というのは、その大いなる声の教えを学ぶことこそが、あなたの学習技能を活用する唯一の目的として聖霊が全世界に見出しているものだからです。

　His simple lessons in forgiveness have a power mightier than yours, because they call from God and from your Self to you.
　聖霊の赦しについての簡単なレッスンは、あなたの学んだことよりも強大な力を持っています。なぜなら、聖霊のレッスンは、神とあなたの真の自己からあなたに対して呼びかけるものだからです。



6. Is this a little Voice, so small and still It cannot rise above the senseless noise of sounds that have no meaning?
　はたしてこの聖霊の声は本当に、あまりに小さくて静かすぎるために、何の意味も持たない無益な雑音にかき消されて聞こえなくなってしまうほど小さな声なのでしょうか。

　God willed not His Son forget Him.
　神は、わが子が神を忘れてしまうことなど意図しませんでした。

　And the power of His Will is in the Voice That speaks for Him.
　そして、神の大いなる意志の力は、神に代わって語る大いなる声の中にあります。

　Which lesson will you learn?
　あなたはどちらのレッスンを学ぶつもりでしょうか。

　What outcome is inevitable, sure as God, and far beyond all doubt and question?
　どの結果が不可避で、神のごとくに確実で、あらゆる疑いや疑問をはるかに超越するものでしょうか。

　Can it be your little learning, strange in outcome and incredible in difficulty will withstand the simple lessons being taught to you in every moment of each day, since time began and learning had been made?
　信じがたいほど難しくて奇異な結果しかもたらさないあなたの取るに足らない学びが、時間が始まって学習が作り出されて以来、毎日、一瞬ごとにあなたに教えられている簡単なレッスンに対抗できるものでしょうか。



7. The lessons to be learned are only two.
　あなたが学べるレッスンはふたつだけです。

　Each has its outcome in a different world.
　それぞれのレッスンは、異なった世界として結実します。

　And each world follows surely from its source.
　そして、いずれの世界も、確実にその源から導かれて生じます。

　The certain outcome of the lesson that God's Son is guilty is the world you see.
　神の子は有罪であるという教えから生じる確実な結果が、あなたの見ているこの世界です。

　It is a world of terror and despair.
　それは恐怖と絶望の世界です。

　Nor is there hope of happiness in it.
　この世界には、幸せになれる希望すらありません。

　There is no plan for safety you can make that ever will succeed.
　この世界において、あなたに立てることのできる安全のための計画で成功するものはひとつもありません。

　There is no joy that you can seek for here and hope to find.
　あなたがこの世界で探し求めることのできる喜びなど存在しないし、それが見つかる見込みもありません。

　Yet this is not the only outcome which your learning can produce.
　とはいえ、これが、あなたが学習することによって生み出すことのできる唯一の成果というわけではありません。

　However much you may have overlearned your chosen task, the lesson that reflects the Love of God is stronger still.
　どれほど過剰にあなたが自分で選んだ課題を学ぼうとも、神の大いなる愛を反映するレッスンは、なおそれよりもずっと強力なものだからです。

　And you will learn God's Son is innocent, and see another world.
　だから、あなたはやがて、神の子は潔白だと学び、もうひとつの世界を見るようになるでしょう。



8. The outcome of the lesson that God's Son is guiltless is a world in which there is no fear, and everything is lit with hope and sparkles with a gentle friendliness.
　神の子が無罪だというレッスンの成果は、いかなる恐れもなく、あらゆるものが希望に照らされ、優しい友愛の輝きで煌めく世界です。

　Nothing but calls to you in soft appeal to be your friend, and let it join with you.
　あらゆるものが、あなたの友になって、あなたとひとつに結ばれたいと優しく訴えて呼びかけてきます。

　And never does a call remain unheard, misunderstood, nor left unanswered in the selfsame tongue in which the call was made.
　そして、ひとつの呼びかけとして聞き入れられないままになったり、誤解されたりすることはないし、呼びかけがなされたそのまったく同じ口で答えられないままになることもありません。

　And you will understand it was this call that everyone and everything within the world has always made, but you had not perceived it as it was.
　そして、あなたは、この世界の中のすべての人たちやすべての物事がつねに発していたのに、あなたがそれがそうだとは知覚していなかったのがこの呼びかけだったのだと理解するようになります。

　And now you see you were mistaken.

　You had been deceived by forms the call was hidden in.

　And so you did not hear it, and had lost a friend who always wanted to be part of you.

　The soft eternal calling of each part of God's creation to the whole is heard throughout the world this second lesson brings.

9. There is no living thing that does not share the universal Will that it be whole, and that you do not leave its call unheard.
　命あるものが完全であるように、そして、あなたがその呼びかけに答えないままでいることのないようにと望む普遍的な大いなる意志を分かち合わないような生き物は存在しません。

　Without your answer is it left to die, as it is saved from death when you have heard its calling as the ancient call to life, and understood that it is but your own.
　あなたが答えなければ、すべての生命は死にゆくままになってしまいます。すなわち、あなたがその呼びかけを、古来の生命への呼びかけとして耳を傾け、そして、その呼びかけがほかならぬ自分自身からの呼びかけだったのだと理解したとき、すべての生命は死から救われます。

　The Christ in you remembers God with all the certainty with which He knows His Love.
　あなたの中にいるキリストは、自らが神の大いなる愛を知っているという完全な確信をもって神のことを覚えています。

　But only if His Son is innocent can He be Love.
　しかし、神が大いなる愛でありうるのは、ただ神の子が無罪である場合だけです。

　For God were fear indeed if he whom He created innocent could be a slave to guilt.
　というのは、もし神が罪なき者として創造した神の子が罪悪感の奴隷になりうるとしたら、神は実に恐ろしい存在だということになるからです。

　God's perfect Son remembers his creation.
　神の完璧な子は自らが創造されたことを覚えています。

　But in guilt he has forgotten what he really is.
　しかし、罪悪感にまみれて、神の子は自分が本当は誰なのか忘れてしまっています。



10. The fear of God results as surely from the lesson that His Son is guilty as God's Love must be remembered when he learns his innocence.
　神の子が自分は無罪だと学んだときに神の大いなる愛を必ず思い出すのと同じくらいの確実さで、神の子が有罪だと学ぶことは神への恐れを生みます。

　For hate must father fear, and look upon its father as itself.
　というのは、憎しみは必ず恐怖を生み出すので、憎む者は自らの父なる神も自分と同じように恐怖を生み出すものとみなすからです。

　How wrong are you who fail to hear the call that echoes past each seeming call to death, that sings behind each murderous attack and pleads that love restore the dying world.
　死を求めるように聞こえる呼びかけの一つひとつを通り越して、殺意に満ちた攻撃の一つひとつの背後から、死にかけている世界に愛を戻してほしいと嘆願して響いてくる呼びかけを聞き損ねるとは、あなたはなんと大きな思い違いをしてるのでしょうか。

　You do not understand Who calls to you beyond each form of hate; each call to war.
　憎しみがまとうさまざまな形の一つひとつや、戦いへの呼びかけの一つひとつの向こう側で、あなたを呼んでいる大いなる存在が誰なのか、あなたはわかっていません。

　Yet you will recognize Him as you give Him answer in the language that He calls.
　しかし、神が呼びかけている言葉であなたが神に返事をするなら、あなたは神に気づくでしょう。

　He will appear when you have answered Him, and you will know in Him that God is Love.
　あなたが神に答えたとき、神は姿を現し、あなたは神の中で、神こそが大いなる愛であると知るでしょう。



11. What is temptation but a wish to make the wrong decision on what you would learn, and have an outcome that you do not want?
　誘惑とは、自分が学ぼうとすることについて間違った決断を下して、自分の望まない結果を得たいという願望にほかなりません。

　It is the recognition that it is a state of mind unwanted that becomes the means whereby the choice is reassessed; another outcome seen to be preferred.
　誘惑のことを望ましくない心の状態だと認識することが、別の結果のほうがより望ましいものに見えるように選択肢を再評価するための手段となります。

　You are deceived if you believe you want disaster and disunity and pain.
　もしあなたが自分は災難や不和や苦痛を望んでいると信じているなら、あなたは思い違いしているのです。

　Hear not the call for this within yourself.
　あなた自身の中にこんな呼びかけを聞いてはなりません。

　But listen, rather, to the deeper call beyond it that appeals for peace and joy.
　それよりも、そんな呼びかけの向こう側の奥深くから聞こえてくる平安と歓喜を求めて訴える呼びかけに耳を澄ましてください。

　And all the world will give you joy and peace.
　そうすれば、世界全体があなたに歓喜と平安を与えてくれるでしょう。

　For as you hear, you answer.
　というのは、あなたは自らが聞いた通りに答えるからです。

　And behold!
　さあ、見てみなさい。

　Your answer is the proof of what you learned.
　あなたの答えが、あなたが何を学んだのかという証拠です。

　Its outcome is the world you look upon.
　あなたの学びの結果が、あなたが目にする世界なのです。



12. Let us be still an instant, and forget all things we ever learned, all thoughts we had, and every preconception that we hold of what things mean and what their purpose is.
　一瞬の間じっとして、そして、私たちがこれまでに学んだすべて、私たちが抱いた思いのすべて、そして、自分たちが、いろんな物事の意味やその目的について持っている先入観など、ひとつ残らず忘れてしまいましょう。

　Let us remember not our own ideas of what the world is for.

　We do not know.

　Let every image held of everyone be loosened from our minds and swept away.

13. Be innocent of judgment, unaware of any thoughts of evil or of good that ever crossed your mind of anyone.
　これまで誰かについてあなたの心をよぎった善悪の思いを一切意識しないようにして、裁きという罪を犯さないでいてください。

　Now do you know him not.
　そうすると、いまや、あなたはその人を知らないことになります。

　But you are free to learn of him, and learn of him anew.
　しかし、あなたは何にも縛られず彼から学び、新たに彼のことを学べるようになります。

　Now is he born again to you, and you are born again to him, without the past that sentenced him to die, and you with him.

　Now is he free to live as you are free, because an ancient learning passed away, and left a place for truth to be reborn.
